Title: Questions from a total noob
Post by Deadpool on Nov 2nd, 2005, 9:38am
I am trying to get my bot to connect to the game room but with no luck so far. I have downloaded the files from
    http://www.cpan.org/modules/by-module/LWP/
and
    http://www.cpan.org/modules/by-module/HTTP/
I've tried following various websites that told me how to unzip the files but there are loads of them. I'm working in Linux, is there any efficient way to install the modules needed to run the bot?
Does anyone have any pointers for a unix noob on running the bot?

What distribution are you using? In mi distro(Scientific Linux) i din't install anything more than the default packages.

What specific error do you get when trying to connect?

I'm in Linux running Fedora 4. When I run the bot I get a message
***bot started***
but my bot doesn't show up in the game room.
Eventually it times out and dies printing the message
got INT signal
Thats all I've seen. I used wget to get the LWP and HTTP modules but have not installed them. These files are a mess of files and loads of .tar.gz files. Is there one files somewhere that I am supposed to install to install all the modules?

It doesn't look like a problem with the modules. Did you read the multiple READMEs that are on that directory? Did you register a new bot name? Did you modify the bot.cfg file?

I have set up a bot and did edit the config file. Though I haven't been able to get to the bots details since; meaning I can't check if all the details are the same. I was leaving that for the time being as I figured it was the modules...
