Title: Open Swiss Blitz Tournament
Post by omar on Nov 2nd, 2010, 4:07pm
I think I've got the tournament tool working to allow late joins and drop outs. I'm hosting an open 5-round blitz tournament this weekend so we can test it out.

If this works I can show the other TD's (Karl, Joel, Greg) how to use it and they can also start hosting tournaments as well. That way I can focus more on playing :-)

I ended up having to cancel this. Only student_t_w was there to play. chessandgo also stopped by, but since there weren't enough people he left. I guess this past Saturday was not a good time for most people. It unexpectedly turned out to be a bad time for me also. About an hour before the tournament was about to start we found out that my wife's uncle passed away. So actually it turned out to be good for me that the tournament didn't get started. Although I was willing to run it and waited about an hour and a half for people to show up.

Maybe we can try this again on Saturday Nov 20th or Sunday Nov 21st. Please post here which day you would prefer.

I couldn't play on the 20th, but if it is the 21st I would try to play for at least a few games.

What matters to me is what time of day it is. I could do either day, but only after about 8:30 AM PST.

If the games are early enough, I should be able to play either day.

How about Sunday the 21st starting at about 8:00 am EST. Lets shoot for a 5 round blitz with players able to join late or drop out early. It would probably take about 4 to 5 hours, so it should be over by about 12 or 1pm EST.

The Blitz tournament went pretty well. The programs worked as expected, even though I made a few human errors.

We had seven players participate in various rounds. Greg (Adanac) had a great day and won all his games.

If there is interest I can organize more one day events like this on weekends. Perhaps using different time controls each week. I like that there isn't any commitment and one can join in or drop out at anytime. It's a good way to get in more human-human games and practice for the WC.

I just posted separately about the Continuous Tournament, but if that doesn't get any interest I'd be like to play the weekend of the 11th or 18th of December.  (OK, even if the CT runs, I might still play a few extra games on the weekend as well...  ::) )

I'd be interested in 30, 45, or 60 sec games.

(Omar, I'm willing to give the tournament tool a try as well, if you don't want to do the scheduling for everything.)

I'll email you and we can setup a time to go over the tournament tool.
