Title: bot_rusty_zero vs bot_Sharp2015CC
Post by RightfulChip on Dec 24th, 2019, 5:49pm
Hey Arimaa community,

The Alpha Zero reproduction bot, bot_rusty_zero, has been making great progress over the past couple of weeks. bot_rusty_zero has been fighting the way up the bot ladder and is now approaching near the levels of bot_dolores and bot_Sharp2015CC.

As the end of the year approaches, I thought that it would be fitting to pit bot_rusty_zero against bot_Sharp2015CC at this time. I will be scheduling 10 matches over the next few days, with the final games happening on 12-31-2019.

Please note that this is not an official Arimaa event, it is an exhibition match for entertainment purposes only.

Thank you to the Arimaa community for making this possible,
James

Coming up quickly is Dec. 31st 2019. This marks a significant date. Not only will it be the end of the decade, but it is also the last day of 2019, the end of the original challenge had it not been claimed by David Wu's Sharp.

The final Challenge match would have actually occurred in 2020, probably in March or April.

This is technically true that the challenge would have passed by now. I just thought that it was interesting that we are approaching the end of the 2019 since the challenge was originally stated as...

In fact we are offering a prize of at least $10,000 USD (current prize may be more) until 2020 to the first person, company or organization who develops a program that can defeat three selected human players in an official Arimaa match.

I'm pretty sure there would have been a Challenge match in 2020 had humanity held on through 2019.

The intent was that the last challenge match would happen in 2019. There would not be one in 2020. I think it was stated better in the ICGA article announcing the challenge where it says "before the year 2020".

Amazing to see the bots that learned the game from self playing achieving this level of play. I will organize a computer championship and challenge match in 2021 (to be played in 2021).

I'm also adding the games to an event after the fact (at http://arimaa.com/arimaa/events/showGames.cgi?e=sharprusty19), though this view doesn't seem particularly useful in terms of giving access to the games.

Thanks Omar, I will definitely be looking forward to future events.

Silver, thanks for taking the time to create the view! I didn't know that Arimaa had that feature.

This time around, we'll probably be expecting the bot to win the Challenge match.  Will it be the same format as it was from 2007 to 2015?

I'm thinking about the format now. Will post something soon.
