I recently timed out a game against Nombril, but I was online to make my move, and simply didn't realize that I was about to time out. The game actually timed out while I was loading it. My process for postals was flawed since there was no margin for error, and I have fixed this and should never time out again that way, but I think that there would be a nice feature that would fix this and be convenient for people with lots of postals. I think that the time remaining should be shown in the gameroom, so that you can quickly see how much time remains in all of your games, and which ones require attention. You could check all of your postals in seconds, without even opening them.
