Title: Bot Arimaanator (?)
Post by UruramTururam on Nov 15th, 2011, 10:20am
Bot Arimaazon says that once a player learns how to win against it, the next bot should be Arimaanator. But there is no such bot now. What was it?

It's some early version of Bomb, I'm pretty sure. I think David Fotland gave a copy to Fritz which he puts up for play every once in a while:

Yes, an early, buggy version of Bomb.  I have put it up now if you are curious.  There is not much interest in antiques, so normally I would put it up only when Omar has disabled all the server bots during a tournament, and I feel sorry for visitors who have no bots to play.  But perhaps active developers will put their bots up for play during such times this year, making Arimaanator obsolete even then.

I let Badger play a couple of test games against it but Arimaanator lost both because it tried to make illegal moves. I don't know which moves they were, but if there were logs, I think they would show it.

Arimaanator doesn't check to make sure that it is trying to make a move that changes the position.  Against humans, the null move bug is usually triggered when Arimaanator is losing anyway, although I do recall winning due to a null move even when my position was poor.  I suspect that against other bots the bug might get triggered more often, since bots like to freeze pieces, reducing the options.

Given that Arimaanator is not being developed, there is no point in debugging, and very little point in leaving it on-line.  I won't put it back up again unless Omar has disabled the server bots and people have no ladder to play against.
