Title: playarimaa.org alpha live!

New site is live! Missing some features still, but it should be possible to create and play games. Anyone interested in helping out or contributing to development would be quite welcome!

Enjoy!

Thanks for the website. :)
Some bug reports: If you play a game and opponent makes a move (except setup) you can't make a move. You need to click "make move" to get the empty move error, then you can move again.
Refreshing while the game seems to lead to position reset back to setups.
EDIT: Now if someone moves one needs to "redo move" to actually see the move. Maybe you want to play a game so you can see yourself. ;) (I would be available as opponent)

EDIT2: Game is going assymetrical, after 4 moves I see a completely different board position than my opponent.
My view: https://www.dropbox.com/s/r9ysjc16i1btlqi/arimaa.png?dl=0&preview=arimaa.png
Craggy view: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ut3terh9hnd147f/arimaa%20screenshot.png?dl=0

EDIT3: After about 15 minutes it would refresh my site and give me the correct position. Luckily I had a minute reserve left there still. :D
EDIT4: Now it seems to work well. :)
EDIT5: Legal move not taken: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9g251x9oh5psgsd/arimaa2.png?dl=0
Before my time ran out I wanted to push the rabbit to f3 with my remaining two steps but it wouldn't let me. I guess a bug due to that rabbits can't MOVE backwards.

P.S: A scroll bar for chat would be nice, otherwise one can't see new chat and board at same time.

I get nothing. On all of the browsers I have tried today (both windows and mobile) I get nothing but a big, empty, white screen.  :-(

lightvector took it down about 24 hours after putting it up.  He is working on fixing some of the bugs that were found.

I'm not sure when it's coming back, but it will (and I bet lv will post here when it does!)

Site back up!

http://playarimaa.org/

An enormous number of bugs and UI issues have been fixed. Woohoo! As before, reply in thread, poke me in chat, or email contact@playarimaa.org if you see any issues, particularly anything showstopping. If you're curious about the changes or what bugs were fixed, the sequence of commit messages here isn't too bad a summary:

https://github.com/lightvector/arimaa-server/pull/94

As before, anyone who might possibly interested in helping out with further dev work even a little, please  let me know! You get to help build an awesome new site that desperately needs work to get still-missing major features online. :)

Is the site down at the moment? For some reason I get a blank screen when opening it.

Hehe, glad someone noticed. :)

Yes, it's down right now. I can put it up, but it needs a lot more basic functionality before it actually becomes usable for real (such as player and game history viewing), so I didn't see a a lot of purpose in having it continually up and consuming resources just yet. Also having it running feels a bit awkward to me until we get something like live-push of new resources, since right now any upgrade (even one that's purely frontend) requires restarting the server, interrupting any running games and logging everyone off - not ideal.

After the huge wave of dev work that happened late January to get things up and all the basic bugfixes, I think I'm going to take a break and put this on the backburner, as right now there are actually several other personal projects and things that I really want to explore that working on the site has been preventing me from getting to.

I do plan to revisit this project within a few months if there is still demand for it. OR before then if there is at least one other developer who is willing to partner up and who really will commit to putting in a serious amount of time testing and implementing the remaining basic functionality with me - in that case I will continue to set aside everything else and work to get this running.  :)
