Ruling party shake-up spreading to Arimaa
2011 Arimaa World Championship Update
The eighth annual Arimaa World Championship tournament began on January 5th,
2011, with thirty-three players, including Jean Daligault (chessandgo), Fritz Juhnke (Fritzlein), and
Greg Magne (Adanac), the top three finishers in each of 2008-2010. This year, however, a
crop of new players lead by Gregory Clark (rabbits) is challenging the ruling trio. Each of the top three has
suffered a loss to a rising Arimaa star. Now the field has been reduced to only
eight players, four of whom have two lives left and four of whom are only one
loss from elimination. Toby Hudson, the fourth-place finisher the previous two
years, has already fallen. Will the revolutionary movement of 2011 dethrone the
champion, or will Daligault manage to defend his crown and become a
four-time-champion?

All games of the Arimaa World Championship can be viewed over the Internet, and most games will feature live commentary by top Arimaa players. You will be amazed at how easy Arimaa games are to follow, especially with commentary. The unique Arimaa time control keeps the game moving at a steady pace so you never have to wait too long for the next move, and with no chance of draws, the players will be fighting hard to win.

To watch the game and listen to commentary, just click on the game board about ten minutes after the game start time. (Viewing of tournament games over the Internet is slightly time delayed to discourage cheating.) Also you can join in the fun in the Arimaa chat room with any questions or comments of your own. Game commentators keep one eye on the live chat so as to be able to respond to questions from the audience.
