The player who has made the most effort to play serious games against many different human opponents wins the 'Player of the Month' contest. The winner will receive a prize of $30 USD.
The contest is designed so that everyone has a pretty good chance of winning if they really try. Anyone can participate and there is no entry fee.
- In each game that is counted the winning player receives 3 points
- The losing player receives 1 point if the game lasts for 20 moves or more, 2 points if the game is at least 40 moves and 3 points if the game is 60 moves or more
- In case of a draw both players receive 3 points
- If a player resigns, forfeits, loses on time or by repetition, the player does not receive any points
- Only the first game played during the month against each distinct opponent will be counted
- Another game against the same player will also be counted if the sides (colors) are changed
- Games played against bots (programs) are not counted
- Must be a rated game; unrated games are not counted
- Time control must be at least 45 seconds per move or more; games with less than 45 seconds per move are not counted
- Games with only a reserve time and no time per move are not counted
- Game must begin and end within the same month
- Postal games that are rated are also counted if they begin and end within the same month
- Games played against new players who have played less than 2 games are not counted
- In case of a tie, the first player to reach the high score wins
- The contest is only for human players; bots are not eligible for the award

Please don't abuse the contest by playing rigged games. It will spoil the fun for everyone.
