Interesting. He is going for the camel, and has not protected the trap to prevent us from capturing the camel. Will capturing the camel by pulling through 24g Eg3w mg2n Ef3n mg3w lead to any sneaky traps he has set out for us? Because it looks good at first glance.

My best guesses 24s Md5n ed4n hf5n hf6e Which would leave us with the most obvious move being take the cat wither by flipping using the E or moving the dog to g3 Does Fritz think that 25s Md6w Mc6x ed5n ed6s ed5s puts him back into a better or at least as close to even as possible? This would leave the board at almost a mirror. The elephants in the middle and HD on the f traps as mirrors with DC on the c traps.

Not completely symmetric: Silver's elephant is better placed, impeding ours. Silver rabbits are more advanced and its back row weaker even if our rabbits should slide at some point to reinforce it. Now for immediate concerns. Do we have any alternative to taking immediately ? If not, let's play that move fast. All moves with nothing played around f3 could as well be played after taking, so I don't think we need to consider them. We cannot save camel. Taking cat with dog jeopardizes said dog. Bad. That leaves moving the horse to have our elephant out on e3 instead of f4, for what it could be worth. But we need to avoid Silver switching from our camel to push the horse to f5. Not sure how to make anything of it.

Taking cat with dog would be a move for 25g, not 24g. At least that's how I interpreted Ice. And that would be the move I would prefer at first glance assuming 24s along the lines suggested by Ice. I think we want to take the camel this turn, but I note that the E can end on any of 3 squares, although f4 looks best.

| Yes, I did interpret Ice's comment in that way. On the other hand, my question was «what other 24g could we imagine?», and I tried to review all possibilities. The possibility of taking was not connected to Ice's comment. Quote: I think we want to take the camel this turn, but I note that the E can end on any of 3 squares, although f4 looks best. |
| I simply cannot imagine any benefit not to go to f4 in that case.

I agree with the consensus here to capture the camel on 24g and the cat on 25g. Fritzlein will have a lot to say about this move in the post-mortem analysis, I'm sure. He must have thought that his western long-term prospects were bleak with his elephant tied down in the east, and so he elected to sacrifice his cat to free the position. After these next 3 moves, my main concern is our weak b3 and g3 squares. I'd like to eventually rotate our e3 horse to g3 and c2 dog to b3 to strengthen our defences. Especially the g3 square with all those advanced silver rabbits creeping down. Eventually - there no immediate threats to our position right now. 24g Eg3w mg2n Ef3n mg3w mf3x 24s hf5n hf6e Md5n ed4n 25g cg4s dh4w cg3w cf3x dg4s

Taking the camel and ending on f4 is clearly the move to me. I'm starting a voice vote and already count me, Adanac, Hannoskaj, and Simon. We need 2 more.

| It looks like the only reasonable move.
