Why not add Arimaa to BSW?

I just found this site and it looks great: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrettspielWelt If Arimaa were added to that, then I'm sure some users of the site would look up the game and then come play it here.

I have a better suggestion: why not boardspace.net? Its devoted to abstract board games, so it would seem more appropriate: http://www.boardspace.net/english/index.shtml. This also looks like the only place where you can play Tzaar online in realtime. The game of Tzaar, or the GIPF project, seems to be the greatest thing since sliced bread if you believe the folks at boardgamegeek. there are two other games there that can be played on 8x8 boards: Dipole and Lines of Action. The latter looks interesting. But those two dont have the same depth as Arimaa. Im just wondering how game inventors and publishers make any money anymore - practically everything can be found on the internet these days.

Is there a reason why we can't do both?

In this forum on BGG: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/12240 they list a bunch of games up for consideration to add to boardspace.net. Arimaa is listed at number 6. Also, I was very delighted to see Arimaa is already on igGameCenter.com Im just wondering how game inventors and publishers make any money anymore - practically everything can be found on the internet these days. |
| They sell their game in toy stores, of course. Isn't it more fun to play them in person? It's free to play Arimaa online, but I bought a set and got my boss to buy his own. Fritz bought more than 10. And the copyright holder of the game must endorse it being played online or it won't be there. It says on wikipedia about BSW: "Other games, including Puerto Rico, were previously offered on BSW but were removed when the respective publishers did not prolong the stay." This is why, I believe, Power Grid isn't on BSW any more. So they can allow the games to be on these sites which could help advertise it, and they can take the game off whenever they want.

I am OK with having other sites add Arimaa. In fact last year I tried to contact several sites about adding Arimaa. The only one I got a positive response from was IGGC. But we will miss out on games played at other sites becoming a part of the Arimaa games archive.
