18g cd7(e/n) Md6n rc7n Md7w is definitely something that should be considered, as Silver would not be able to take the rabbit immediately.

The immediate silver response that I want to watch out for is De7 Df5 Ee6.  We need to have a strategy to prevent that move, counter with an equal threat, or negate the effect.  Playing for a camel trade has some appeal because our a6 horse would then be in prime position to solidify control of c6.

If we don't want to trade/lose the camel then aaaa's move should be considered.  Silver's E can pursue and hostage the camel, but at this point in the game with our advanced pieces I think it would hurt him to have it buried in the back ranks.  In order to make it work I think he'd have to escape with his camel to have strongest free piece.  We could also later execute Md7:Rbc7 Ha7:Rb7 if our camel were not diamond-ed reducing his power over our horse.

The good thing is that if silver moves his elephant north then he also has to take a step with his horse or make a large threat, since our elephant on c4 can capture the f4 horse in one move.

I can't see how we can get a camel trade in this position. Our camel is in a more vulnerable position, and silver can threaten it before we can make an equivelant threat against the silver camel.

I cant see anything better than aaaa's proposed moves. As we cant make a good counter threat I think we have to get our camel out of danger.

At least on the first sight I like it.
(And on the first sight I prefere ce, making stronger threats when R goes through c6)

Does anyone see a good alternative to the proposed move from aaaa (and I guess Hippo's version of it)? While it is not obvious to me that it's a *good* move I don't see a better one.
So if we don't have an alternative in the next 30 hours or so I will probably just play it without poll to regain some reserve.

For the record, I also like pushing the cat east better, but had different reasoning for it: Although the cat would be slightly more active on the second rank, it would do Silver little extra good having it in the northeast, which (to borrow some go jargon) is also less of an "interesting" part of the board right now. In addition, the cat could hamper the elephant in getting to the camel, which in turn would also have slightly more room for maneuver in the northwest.

Given this lopsidedness in the argumentation, I say go for the voice vote for 18g cd7e Md6n rc7n Md7w.

I agree with aaaa's reasoning; the cat is in the way if silver's elephant pursues the camel, and it is an extra step if silver wants to hostage our camel on c8 as the rabbit is frozen.  The M:Ce7 M:Rc8 move is currently my first choice.  All the silver replies to this move seems slow as he must protect both the c6 and f4 horses both of which are potentially hanging so it seems the silver elephant cannot take more than two steps, only one if he wants to go north.  He may try to threaten our dog such as Dd6 Df5 Ed4 X.

An alternate move I see is Eb4:Mb5.  This also leaves the c6 silver horse hanging, even after the De7 Df5 Ee6 response, so it also limits silver's available steps.  Although silver doesn't make immediate progress this does seem better for him than the first move.

The third possibility would be only part of the first move: M:Ce7 Dd6 X for instance.  I have no idea if there is merit in this; I just point it out in case a flaw is found with the other move(s).

I don't see better than the suggested move, but our position looks very bad to me. Something like -2.5.

Some variation of 18s ee4w de6w [cg6n Rg5n] in reply looks best, and now our c5 rabbit is very poorly positioned and our dog is in danger. I don't know how we should continue.

Since everyone agreed with the move I will play it in ~10 hours already since we really need that reserve.
If someone doesn't like it, be quick with stating that. Wink

EDIT: To make that sure, we push the cat east, right?
