I've been playing arimaa for along time and I was wondering if there is a sight where I can learn to program a bot

It depends on how much you already know about programming.  There are great resources out there for bot programming, but only if you are already an experienced coder.  If you aren't already experienced, then you might want to consider some other project for learning how to program.  I'm afraid that if you try to learn how to program by trying to learn how Arimaa bots work, you might end up learning neither.   Cry

You have to learn something like C, C++, Python or Java (to name a few).

Any recommendations for resource(s) to teach myself Java?  I did some other stuff a decade ago (Visual Basic, etc) and am considering getting back up to speed in the world of computers.

I cannot recommend any Java specific book since I've learned from Finnish resources. The official API is a must when you are ready to concretely do stuff. http://download.oracle.com/javase/6/docs/api/
 
For development environment, you might find Eclipse good enough http://www.eclipse.org/
 
If you don't know what object oriented programming is, then you need to get a basic understanding of that first. I haven't any suggestions for that either Sad

I have experience in C, C++, Python, and Java and am also wondering how to go about making a bot. I know I could code the arimaa game specifications into a program of my own but that wouldn't be compatible with the online gameroom.

If you know any of those languages reasonably well, it's easy to make a bot which can play in the gameroom using this tool.
