Bot programming: where to start ?

Hi, everybody, I'm a computer scientist preparing a Master project. It will be about programming an Arimaa's bot. I'd like to know what would be a good starting point to do so ? I think it'd be interesting to begin with open source bots that are already available. What's your opinion. I've got knowledge about C, C++, Java, Matlab and a few other languages. Best regards.

If I'm correct, most of the bots provided there are "ready to play". You just need to connect to the AIE and that's it. Am I correct ? Do you have any recommandation, not to do useless work, beginning the wrong way or do time costly mistakes. Thanks !

The absolutely best resource for board game AI programming has to be the Chess Programming Wiki.

Thanks for your help, I'll have a look at it. Seems pretty interesting, even if not exactly about Arimaa. I guess that most concept are closely related.
