Arimaa Flash Client

I setup the Flash client for playing and watching games now. It still has a few bugs, but is for the most part very usable. The times should now be displaying much better and there is a "Plan" button which opens a new window where you can make moves for both sides to plan your move. Omar

Looks pretty good in general. I played a whole game with it no problems. I replayed a whole game with it no problems. BUT... when i was watching your game live, it always showed pieces moving off the edge of the board at the end of every move.

I do not like the flash client. Everything's always misaligned. Perhaps if that can be fixed, I'll like it better. Also, the end-of-game sounds are now gone. I guess I'm just used to the way it was. If it's more stable though, maybe that's the most important thing.

You must have a different version of flash to me! On my version there's no problem with alignment. You're probably right about the sounds... But that doesn't concern me.

I have the same version at home and at work, the most recent as far as I know. Both have exactly the same problem with alignment. When you move pieces around, the squares appear to shift slightly. Very annoying.

By the way, there was a point in time where the flash client didn't have that misalignment problem. But then something seems to have been changed, after which the alignment has been messed up.

Brian, how bad is the misalignment? If you could email me a screen capture that would be great. For me the vertical lines on the board are skewed a little, but no major misalignment. Omar

Wow! I was just watching your game against GnoBot, and what 99of9 said was happening, I could see. At the end of every move, the last piece moved suddenly makes a long glide and exits stage left, completely off the board. I would recommend that we go back to the other client while these problems exist. I would't want to have to watch the challenge match with all this strange stuff happening. Screen capture... will do later tonight.

Correction... the glide off the board only seems to happen after gold's moves.

Correction to the correction... I saw it happen with blue now too. But with gold, it happens every time.

I like the new way to select steps better. It's clearer. The flash client is wittier too. In my postal game with Omar, it always tells my move is bad! (A window pops up telling "Gameserver: Bad Move <html>! ...") The move is accepted though.

The question is... does it tell Omar how to exploit your bad move? That would be a great client!

The problem with the pieces sliding off the board has been fixed. It was being caused by the bot adding a space character at the end of the move string that it sends. I think the "Bad Move" message is being caused by the client sending the move twice sometimes and the game server rejecting the move the second time it gets sent. Unfortunately it is not sending me any suggestions for good moves Omar

Sometimes when the players move fast, the client doesn't keep up with the game. It shows new moves in the move window, but it doesn't keep moving the pieces on the board.

This is probably nothing to do with the new client, but I'll say it here anyway. Arimaanator is refusing to leave our game board!! We played a quick game, it lost on time (bad move I guess), and now it sits there pretending to still be thinking! I think it's just a sore loser and doesn't want to lose rankings points.
